Piedmont Natural Gas Downtown Alive- Weekly music series for 25 weeks between late March and late August; features local, regional and national entertainers with sounds including rock, blues, funk, and cover bands, with a series total of approximately 45,000 annually; this is the single largest fundraiser for the Metropolitan Arts Council each year; contracted to handle operations, sales, entertainment, volunteers, PR, marketing, and oversight.

Friday, May 25 - Starry Nights at Roper Mountain Science Center

Fridays are "starry nights" at Roper Mountain Science Center. Friday evening visitors are treated to three different Hooper Planetarium presentations. Each is exciting, educational, and just plain fun! They are presented on the largest planetarium screen in South Carolina.
In the Daniel Observatory the real stars and planets are seen through the eighth largest telescope of its kind in the nation. The historic "War of the Worlds" telescope provides views which are truly breathtaking! Join us for Friday "Starry Nights" at Roper Mountain Science Center.

– Paris Mountain State Park will hold a program on butterflies and moths, and a program on water animals on Saturday, May 26.
The Friends of Paris Mountain State Park will host a program at 10 a.m. on ‘Moths and Butterflies.’  Dr. John Snyder will teach participants about the moths and butterflies of our area.  After the indoor presentation, the group will take a short walk to look for various species.

Saturday, May 26 - Let's Move Kid's Fitness

4/21-5/26 Let’s get kids active! This FREE 6-week program focuses on kids’ fitness and nutrition. The classes are taught by our recreation staff and are held in Cleveland Park. The classes meet at 10am at the Cleveland Park Center and utilize the park for physical activities. Each class will incorporate stretching, nutrition, skills related to a specific sport and active games. This program is for children ages 5-12 years old.

Saturday, May 26 - 4th Saturday Program at Paris Mountain

Interpretive Ranger Cathy Taylor will present a program at 1 p.m. called “Suited to Swim.”  Many of Paris Mountain’s animals are adapted to life in or near water.  Help look for ducks, tadpoles, turtles and aquatic insects, as well as signs of our resident beaver population.  Activities include wading into Mountain Creek, so participants may want to bring shoes that can get wet in this 2 hour program!  A similar program will be offered to families on many Fridays this summer.

Monday, May 28 - Family Fun Ride for Charity

Not quite ready to take on the pro course? We still have a ride for you. SafeKids will be in attendance on the course as well as prior to the race, to help fit your kids with helmets.  Helmets are strongly encouraged! Packet pick-up will be upstairs at Carolina Ale House on Sunday, May 27th from 5p-8p. There will be a prize for the top fundraiser in this ride as well.  Come be a part of the family fun!
Where: The family ride will start at 8am at the START/FINISH line at Main Street and McBee Avenue - it will follow the Swamp Rabbit Trail up to the train at Furman University and back. There will be a water stop set up on the trail for you and your family!

My son has been really into planting this Spring and if you follow us on Facebook at all, you know that we ordered caterpillars from Insect Lore after I found him capturing ones from the yard and waiting for them to turn into butterflies.
