October Programming at The Children's Museum of the Upstate

Open Art Studios
September - All Month
Weekdays from 2:30-4:30pm; Weekends from 1:00-4:00pm
All ages can build skills while getting messy with art using our materials and their imagination. During this daily supervised arts & crafts program, children can look around and get inspired to paint a masterpiece, build a rocket from a cardboard tube, design jewelry, or just practice cutting skills. 
Let’s Play School
Monday, September 1 - 6 at 11am and 1pm 
Ages 5 and under will find that the Get Up and Grow room is their very first classroom.  Miss Karen will introduce songs and stories about school.  
TCMU closed on Mondays during the school year beginning on September 8.  Please come and play Tuesday – Saturday 9am – 5pm or Sunday 11am – 5pm.  

Play in Clay: Mini Me
Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28th at 1pm and 3pm
Ages 6 and up explore the properties of clay by squishing, rolling, pinching and designing their own “Mini Me.” Limited to 10 participants, arrive early to register at the door.  

Celebrate Autumn
Tuesday, Sept 30 at 11am & 1pm 
Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!  Ages 5 and under enjoy pumpkin crafts and stories as we prepare for the spoooookiest time of year!

Real Tool Time: Woodworking
Saturday, October 11 @t 11am and 1:30pm
Make a book holder! Ages 7 & up learn basic woodworking skills & concepts using glue, nails, screws, sandpaper, finishes, paint & hardware in this monthly program.  Limited to 6 participants; arrive early to register. Free with admission: $9 child/$10 adults (members free).

Fiber Arts: Web Weaving    
Saturday, Oct. 18 @ 11am & 2pm
Discover the art of web weaving! Participants will use sewing skills to fabricate their own spider toy and will learn a few interesting facts about these cool creatures. Space is limited to 16 per session and ages 6 and up. Free with admission: $9 child; $10 adults (members free).
Play with Clay: Clay Monster
Saturday, Oct. 25 @ 1pm & 3pm | Sunday, Oct 26 @ 1pm & 3pm
Children experiment with the properties of clay as they use their hands & imaginations to create a Halloween-themed figurine using slab & coil techniques. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Limited to 12 participants per session. Free with admission: $9 child; $10 adults (members free).
Rad Lab: The Worms Crawl In  
Saturday, Oct. 18, 1pm & 3pm
What happens when you mix old leaves, leftover vegetables and worms? 
Compost! Explore our “Can o’ Worms” compost factory and learn the basics of how compost is made. Free with admission: $9 child; $10 adult (members free). 
CATCH – Coordinated Approach to Child’s Health
Sunday, Oct. 19 @1pm & 3pm
Give your heart a work out! Jump, twist & wiggle to favorite songs while learning all about one of the hardest working parts of our body – the heart! Free with admission $9 child; $10 adults.
Middle School Fright Night 
Friday, Oct. 24 @ 7pm-9:30pm
Middle School Halloween party – Costume & Dance contests, DJ, games, prizes & more! Attend with your child or drop them off for a PNO (Parent’s Night Out). $10 advance; $15 at the door. 
Kid’s COMIC CON & trick or treat 
Saturday, Oct 25 @ 9am – 5pm
Dress up as your favorite comic book character and Trick or Treat at the Children’s Museum! Meet local comic book illustrators and learn how to create your own animation.  Multiple activities scheduled throughout the day. Free with admission $9 child; $10 adults; members free 
Youth Capture the Colorful Cosmos Exhibition
Oct. 28 – Nov 22
In collaboration with the Smithsonian & Harvard.  Amazing temporary astrophotography by students from Penny Fischer Middle School and Sterling Middle School.  Limited hours, see website for details. Included with daily admission $9 child; $10 adults. Members free.
