Lessen that Explosive Behavior in Kids-Get Them Moving!!

This list will get you thinking-and your ideas will the best!!

December 6, 2021

Get out and move! Get that heart going. Plan each week for 3-5 times you will schedule to get them up/out and really move-no matter the weather:

     * Don't start too big- but with alternating some walking and then running in brief intervals.  Then build to mainly running over time to longer distances. Wear good shoes (Click HERE)

     * Dust off the bikes and get out in a park, somewhere with some freedom to not have to start and stop at lights.

     * Grab the old tennis racquets and pick up some balls--- let them chase and pick up the balls as you play....(most public parks have a court)

     * Have neighborhood friends or siblings?  Work up easy races/relay races that are fun. Empty paper towel rolls make a fine baton and you can mix up hopping, skipping, and running in relays around the house or in a park.

     * Use safety cones (Click HERE) and arrange for obstacle/steering courses in large empty parking lots or a cul-de-sac.

     * Raining?  Ninja Warriors has us all creating obstacle courses and many are using everyday household items like chairs and laundry baskets set thru rooms and hallways (not stairs-remember safety first) and then let the kids enjoy it--Time their best alone, (not racing against each other at the same time.)

*Jump roping:  I know, maybe you hated them as a kid---but they do not have to know that. (Click HERE for great "skipping" techniques you can teach your kids-something they can use all their lives!!)

     * I have heard of folks hanging a punching bag in the garage and purchasing gloves for the kids but truthfully, I do not know if that increases instincts to hit.  In Martial Arts there is a great deal of emphasis on not using your hands as weapons unless last resort. Not sure they'd get that on just a punching bag in the garage to unleash on---so this suggestion may be good with parent oversight.

THERE ARE MANY "BOARD GAMES" that encourage movement!

1. Get Up for Pup 2. The Floor is Lava  3. Twister

EXERCISE DVDs:

Never underestimate the fun of a crazy 1980's aerobic video.  Go by a Used/Discounted shop for DVDs and Find One with Great Music.  The kids will laugh the whole time they exercise!!   (I recommend Richard Simmons-Love him!!)

DANCING:

Why not learn to dance together?  Fun!  I never learned and am a clutz and hate to get in situations (weddings) where all enjoy a dance.

PARKS/HIKES: Include some hiking---does not need to be far.  The fresh air is great.  Most parks have easy to difficult hikes--  Select the easy to just enjoy yourselves.  Click HERE to find a State Park  City parks are just fine as well-Hope around the Upstate trying out different ones!
